For Joe Lieberman, it’s always been about the money.

For Joe Lieberman, it’s always been about the money.

For Joe Lieberman, it’s always been about the money. Back in the mid-1970s I was working as a part-time PR writer for a non-profit day program for the elderly in Norwalk, CT, called Elderhouse. The director called me to say they were getting a visit from an influential state senator and would I drop by to cover the visit. The state senator, of course, was Joe Lieberman, and he was a very impressive young man. What I remember most, however, was an incident that took place with one of the senior citizens who lived in the building on the...

Roger Ailes asked HCQ to contribute to Fox.

Roger Ailes asked HCQ to contribute to Fox.

The death today of Roger Ailes, former CEO and founder of Fox News, brought back some personal memories to the editor of the Hillary Clinton Quarterly. It was in the early 90s before Fox News actually went on the air. Ailes called me, Frank Marafiote, because he had read in the papers that we were doing a newsletter about then-First Lady Hillary Clinton. There was an assumption among many in the media that our mission was to slander Hillary and promote some of the more outrageous stories coming out of Little Rock. (See our story, Sleaze for...

Onward Together launched to promote progressive values.

On Monday (5/15/2017) Hillary Clinton officially launched a new political group called Onward Together. According to the group’s web site, its primary mission is to “promote progressive values” and give a voice to the 66 million voters who supported Hillary’s presidential campaign in 2016. Organized as a 501(c)(4) group with the IRS, a designation for social welfare nonprofits, the group has begun its fundraising campaign in earnest. Already tens of thousands of voters on Hillary’s email list have been contacted...

How Obama killed Hillary’s campaign.

Obama and his failures became Hillary’s failures. When Bill Clinton’s Administration got hammered during the 1994 midterm elections, many pundits blamed Hillary: it was health care reform, she was too liberal, the was too powerful as first lady, etc. etc. One of the few who called it correctly was our own hyperventilating Chris Matthews. I personally called Matthews the day after the election. In fairness, he didn’t really know who I was, though the Hillary Clinton Quarterly was certainly well known among most political...

Women who hate Hillary.

Women who hate Hillary.

Women Who Hate Hillary: the Secret Sin Many Women Share — (Editor’s Note: I wrote “Women Who Hate Hillary” more than 20 years ago. I never re-published it on this web site mostly because I thought the article’s premise — that women hate Hillary — no longer had any validity. I was wrong. Many people are blaming women for Hillary’s loss. Not everyone agrees with that assessment. While a majority of women did support her, I do wonder why the percentage wasn’t much higher. After all, her...

Hillary, Whitewater, and Madison Guaranty

Hillary, Whitewater, and Madison Guaranty

In 1994 the Hillary Clinton Quarterly and Matt Hallisey investigated Hillary’s role in the complex business deals of the McDougals, the Whitewater land development project, and Madison Guaranty Savings and Loan.  “You can’t be a lawyer if you don’t represent banks.” — Hillary Clinton, March, 1992 As a special counsel begins his investigation into a real estate venture part-owned by then-Governor and Mrs. Clinton in the mid-1980s, questions have been raised about Mrs. Clinton and her law firm’s representation of various entities...

Don’t blame Millennials.

Don’t blame Millennials.

The Atlantic recently published a story about Hillary Clinton and Millennials that essentially blames an entire generation for potentially sinking her chances in the 2016 presidential election. Millennial Voters May Cost Hillary Clinton the Election is a well-written piece from Ronald Brownstein, amply supported with data from recent polls. It’s a tough article to read if you support Hillary Clinton. It’s not that there are any surprises, it’s just painful to realize how much of Hillary’s non-engagement with...

The real Howard Dean Scream!

The real Howard Dean Scream!

One of the highlights thus far of the 2016 Democratic Convention was former Vermont governor, Howard Dean, recreating his infamous “scream” from the 2008 presidential campaign. I never knew he had such a terrific sense of humor! Turns out the Hillary Clinton Quarterly has the audio file of the original, “real” scream, as well as a photo of the candidate as he ascended into a new political dimension. If you haven’t heard this before, enjoy. That primal yelp at the end is priceless!   Share this:Click to share...

A beautiful piece of ass for Donald Trump.

A beautiful piece of ass for Donald Trump.

What really matters to Donald Trump. My grandfather The Barber used to subscribe to Esquire magazine for his shop. While my brothers were getting their buzz-cuts (so that Grandpa would have plenty of time to artly trim the locks of his namesake), I read the magazine, not quite sure if the nuns at St. Philip’s would have a problem with it. All I recall is that I DID read the articles and learned more than a 12-year old should know about being a man in the 1960s. I also learned something about great prose and what it looked like. I still...

Now we can have some fun!

The past few weeks I’ve taken a break from writing about Hillary and the campaigns. Sanders and most of his followers bored the hell out of me. Not much of what they had to say rose above the juvenile rants that I made during my own sordid activities as a McGovern supporter back in the early 70s. Let me give credit where credit is due: Trump might be a psychopath, but he’s entertaining as hell. It is even more interesting to me that his most ardent far right supporters are also mentally ill. Many of them have come to this web site...
