Thanks to new books like Ken Gormley's,
The Death of American Virtue: Clinton vs. Starr, there's a renewed interest in
all things Whitewater, including First Lady Hillary
Clinton's role in the scandal.
Back in March, 1994, two of her staff members had just been
subpoenaed to testify before a grand jury about any contacts
on Whitewater. Moments beforehand, Hillary gave an exclusive
interview to Elle magazine, upsetting members of
the traditional White House press corps that had been
pressing to talk to her, and revealing her strategy in
dealing with the issue.
She summarized her feelings this way:
“I am stunned at the level to which malevolent,
malicious false gossip has been permitted to become
newsworthy.”

With Hillary Clinton now serving as Secretary of State, questions about her intellectual and moral education abound. One of the major intellectual influences – perhaps an emotional one was well – was radical social philosopher and activist Saul Alinsky.

The most frequently used search term about Hillary Clinton is "hillary" and "lesbian." It's hard to tell if the fascination with Hillary's sex life has more to do with a belief that strong female political figures must be lesbians, or if some people are secretly hoping that she is gay, if only to validate their own lifestyles. In any case, more than a decade ago we commissioned a talented freelance writer, Liza Featherstone, to look carefully into the rumors. Liza, who has written for numerous national publications including The Nation, found plenty of buzz to share with our readers.
Here's Liza's story about Hillary and the lesbian rumor mill.
