The has not been a good two weeks for late, middle-aged white men.
First, Newt takes another stab at Hillary, this time calling her responsible for the kidnapping of almost 300 schoolgirls in Nigeria.
This week we had George Bush’s former political guru, Karl Rove, suggesting that Hillary suffered brain damage when she had a concussion. Although she was only in the hospital for three days, Rove doesn’t let facts get in the way of his hypothesis and says Hillary was hospitalized for a month.
Then this past Tuesday, Newt comes out to say he is offended by what Rove had to say. As reported in Politico:
Newt Gingrich said that he was “deeply offended” by Karl Rove’s comments questioning whether Hillary Clinton suffered a brain injury.
“I am totally opposed and deeply offended by Karl Rove’s comments about Secretary Clinton,” the former House speaker and 2012 presidential candidate posted during a Q & A on his Facebook page. “I have many policy disagreements with Hillary[,] but this kind of personal charge is exactly whats wrong with [A]merican politics.”
It more than just the “old boys network.” Hillary long ago transcended that barrier. The antipathy from Gingrich and Rove is complicated and much of it goes back to their hatred of Bill Clinton. He’s not running for anything these days so Hillary gets to play both surrogate for Bill and a political threat in her own right.
Although the Clinton camp responded by saying Rove had none of his facts straight, Hillary, I’m sure, is having another chuckle over this. She knows as well as anyone that her medical records will be examined by the rest of the world if and when she runs for president.
The question we all want answered: what was with those sunglasses?
